Guanacaste

Guanacaste, a province in northwestern Costa Rica, is a tropical paradise bursting with outdoor activities. It has more than 400 miles of coastline on the Pacific Ocean, creating many opportunities for water sports like surfing, snorkeling, fishing or simply relaxing on a beach. Guanacaste has many black volcanic sand beaches, which contrast beautifully with the bright blue water.

Liberia, the capital city of Guanacaste, is home to the recently opened Daniel Oduber International Airport and is an ideal stopover for travelers, as it's close to many activities and attractions. The population is only 40,000 but the city has a great atmosphere and an assortment of great food, bars and entertainment.

Just over an hour drive from Liberia is the city of Nicoya, located on the Nicoya Peninsula and considered the center of arts and crafts for the Guanacaste Province. It was Costa Rica's first colonial city and is home to the oldest church in Costa Rica. People from all surrounding areas come to Nicoya to shop and take care of legal or banking needs, making the city an important, yet still pleasant, part of Guanacaste.

Travelers to Guanacaste are sometimes confused about which province the Nicoya Peninsula is in. Technically, Guanacaste includes the entire Nicoya Peninsula, but because traveling between the northern and southern areas of the peninsula is sometimes difficult, the administration of the three southern counties has been assigned to the Puntarenas Province. So sometimes the Nicoya Peninsula is considered in Guanacaste and sometimes in Puntarenas.

Guanacaste's most developed and accessible tourist town is Tamarindo. It's located on the west coast of the Nicoya Peninsula and is very accommodating to travelers of all types. The modern developments of Tamarindo, such as paved roads and modern restaurants, have not changed the laidback atmosphere or authenticity of the city, making it extra appealing to travelers.

Guanacaste is also home to some sprawling national parks. Rincon de la Vieja National Park, a 34,800-acre park in the middle of the province, has intriguing features such as boiling mud pots, active volcanoes, nine craters, cloud forests and many hiking trails. Santa Rosa National Park, in the northwestern corner of Guanacaste, encompasses ten unique habitats, ranging from dry tropical forest to moist mangrove swamp and is a popular park for camping.

Air Reservations: Air Reservations may be purchased through Destinations by Amy with your Funjet Vacations booking OR you may book air on your own.  Please note that air bookings will require a higher deposit based on the type of air you request.

Option #1: If you would like Destinations by Amy to research and book the best-valued airfare for you, we are happy to do so. An international airfare booking fee of $50 per person will be added to your deposit.  Please note that you would like us to research air options for you in the comment section of the booking form.

Option #2: If you book your airfare on your own, proper flight information must be provided to Destinations by Amy and must include the following: names of each passenger as shown on their passport, airline, dates of travel, flight numbers, departure & layover airports, departure and arrival times, and record locator.  Forwarding your confirmation directly from the airline to Destinations by Amy will allow for all of this information to be provided correctly to our travel providers.  Current air information is crucial for the on time arrangement of your round-trip airport transfers.

Passports are required for this trip.

***Please note that your passport should not be expiring within six months of the date of the last day of your trip in order to be considered valid. Please check your passport and if your find that yours will be expiring within that six month time frame, please renew your passport as soon as possible. The US Department of State is expecting an extremely large number of passports needing to be processed soon and has stated that it may take up to 16 weeks to receive your passport once renewed. Please do not delay!***

Cancellation Penalties:
Deposit is nonrefundable unless you purchase the travel insurance.

Once Final Payment is applied, your deposit is nonrefundable.

*Please note the change to travel insurance with three choices for refund.  This is a new program and gives you a choice of the coverage you would like.

Room Cancellation Policy: When you purchase the Funjet Vacations Travel Insurance as listed above, you may cancel right up until your departure for a full refund.  If you choose not to purchase the travel insurance, the cancellation policy is as follows:

All deposits are non-refundable.

Why book your travel with Destinations by Amy?

1. The bride and groom have put their trust in us to plan a successful destination wedding for them. The best way for us to manage their wedding plans is to book and manage every reservation so we can coordinate each detail of the wedding event. This relieves stress for the bride and groom and all of their guests.

2. The bride and groom have already set aside a room block and signed a contract for those rooms. Rooms booked outside of their block do not count towards fulfilling their contract.

3. The team at Destinations by Amy is committed to giving you personal and individual attention. You will be treated like the valued client that you are and not merely a confirmation number! We are able to customize your trip any way you like, and can even help if you’d like to extend your stay, change resorts, or bring your family. Please allow us to make sure your travels are handled with our service and expertise.

4. We monitor your reservation and keep you informed of any changes that could occur. Even after you finalize your booking, we will be with you to make certain everything goes smoothly.

5. You will be part of the wedding group and the resort will treat you as a destination wedding VIP guest. You will appear on our final guest list that gets sent to the resort prior to arrival.

6. We work hard on getting you the best price. If you see a less expensive price for the exact package – dates, airline, airline times, taxes, insurance, transfers, etc. – give us the opportunity to work with you to see if we can get the same price. This way we can book your reservation and you can become part of the wedding party. Online prices usually do not include all that we have negotiated for the group. Please give us the opportunity to help you with this.

It was the summer of 2010 at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where  Raynald and I met for the first time. We both were enrolled in a summer college preparatory program called Upward Bound. In transition between classes, one day we were hanging out at a lounge with our peers when I approached Ray and jokingly asked him for $1 to get a cappuccino from the vending machine (til this day I never keep change and oddly enough, he always does) lol).

Being the generous person that he is, he gave me the $1 and the rest is history lol (just kidding). We got to know each other over the years and  became best friends. We lost contact from each other after graduating from high school but later reconnected in 2015 when Ray moved back to Chicago from transferring universities.

At the time we had a mutual friend, my now maid of honor and little did I know the two were cooking up a plan for me to agree to date Raynald. Persistently, he asked me to go on dates and sure enough, we did. We were now traveling 2 hours from our respective schools to see each other. I finally agreed to date Ray exclusively and our relationship blossomed naturally. I am now marrying my best friend.
